Yquem is beautifully placed at a hilltop in Sauternes’ commune, with its 103-ha big vineyard (clay and gravel on the surface and limestones in the subsoil), planted with 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. The average age of vines is 27 years.
The year 2022 will remain etched in memories: extreme heat, persistent drought and a succession of climatic challenges have raised many concerns. Yet, these trials have shaped a Château d’Yquem of an extraordinary quality: powerful, sunny and exuberant. Thus was forged the legend of the 2022 vintage.
2022 stands out as the second most concentrated vintage in the history of Yquem, just behind the illustrious 1945, which remains of exceptional quality even today. It also marks the culmination of an exceptional trilogy, following the remarkable 2020 and 2021.
Once the wine is bottled, it is then labeled. The capsule and label match the wine’s color. Bottles are then wrapped in white silk paper and delicately put into wooden cases. These are stamped with the Château coat of arms, sealed, and ready to be shipped and aged in the cellars of wine lovers around the world.
