Mission Codename Bravo
Second Pour / Cellar Saver: While you wait for your big Brunelli to age…
Last time we offered a Cavalli Tuscan it came with 94 points and we sold it for $29.
This time we’re leveling up. 95 POINTS and only $27. Like this previous Cavalli, this outpaces any number of $100+ competitors’ entries that end with “aia”. And it simply crushes anything else at our negotiated price.
If you like reds with intense power and structure, ripeness and raw, muscle-bound power, you’re in the right place.
Galloni called it “superb” and described it as “deep and packed to the core”, capping the review by calling it “one of the most distinctive wines being made in Tuscany”. A CellarTracker note on the 2019 said “Honestly could be in a tasting with 2019 Mondot” and that holds true here too. But clocking in at $27 puts it in a whole other class of value.
Tenuta Degli Dei is nestled in Tuscany’s renowned “Golden Basin” Conca d’Oro, a storied region at the heart of Chianti. An area known for producing some of Italy’s most celebrated (and expensive) wines.
Their Le Redini marries Merlot with Alicante and borrows a similar suave polish and ripe style of a Right Bank style with the untamed spirit of the Italian countryside. The result is a deeply alluring red with raw power that might have you mistake it for a Napa blend or a vaunted Bordeaux. Dark and concentrated. It’s like liquid Fig Newton. With black plums, licorice, and scorched earth all piled in up front. A distinctly Tuscan earthiness, pine tar, and fresh cut tobacco run their course in between the rich fruit and toasty oak. And terrific acidity keeps it from staling out and makes it a wonderful companion to many meals.
At $45, this is an incredible value, but at $27 it stands in a class by itself.
95 Points – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous “The 2022 Le Redini is superb. Deep and packed to the core, it hits all the right notes. I am most surprised by its bright acids, considering the heat of the year. Blackberry, gravel, crushed rocks, incense, licorice and mocha saturate the palate. A dollop of Alicante in the blend works so well here. This full-bodied, opulent red is one of the most distinctive wines being made in Tuscany. It spent 16 months in used tonneaux and barriques. Drink 2025-2037.”
