Miner Family is back with a MAJOR SCORE!
Not one. Not two. But THREE vintages of their Stagecoach Cabernet plucked straight from the dark winery library and into the light of day on your favorite website. Each one is over 60% OFF.
When we sold the Oracle last, it rocketed up the charts as one of the top offers of last year. If that’s any indication, we expect these to sell out quickly…
We kick things off with their 95-pointer from the near-perfect 2013 vintage. For over a decade, the price on these has only moved one way - up and to the right, reaching $125 direct from the winery, until today, when it plummets to under $50. Fun fact - we offered this same wine almost TEN years ago for the same price. Inflation be damned!
The price is no less staggering considering the source. Stagecoach Cabernet doesn’t come cheap. As one of Napa’s most legendary sites, this rugged mountaintop connecting Pritchard Hill with Atlas Peak, on the eastern slopes, powers some of the most serious Cabernets. It has the elevation, the exposure, the volcanic soils, and the ability to command $125-200 or more for many of the wines grown here.
If you want classic, aged Napa Cab, it doesn’t get much better. Gary Brookman (Mueller, Grace Family) and Stacy Vogel (Cain, Ledson) crafted a beautiful example. Stagecoach-sourced Cabernet clocks in at 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc. And it’s as classic as they come - as Mr. Suckling aptly noted over a decade ago. A quick glance at recent CellarTracker notes confirms this is “drinking beautifully now,” and “completely blossomed and evolved,” and “wow - really enjoyed, I think this is the perfect time to uncork this one.”
100% agree. Surely this has to be a perfect example of how Napa Cabernet can age… not a brooding, thick fruit bomb. Suave and fully resolved, mellow tannins carry a gentle wave of mixed black fruit, with Mission fig, black currant, and wild blackberry holding court with remarkable freshness to this day. Extra complexity comes with the emerging secondary notes of cedar, dried tobacco, dusty leather. The finish carries on like a bass note on a Bösendorfer with the sustain pedal buried - which is to say, a long time. In a perfect drinking window now and for years to come, it was a HUGE favorite at our recent tasting.
Finally, it’s worth repeating - we have VERY LITTLE of this. A few hours at most until it’s gone. Do not hesitate!
95 Points – James Suckling “Aromas of blackberries, walnuts and light wet earth follow through to a full to medium body, light chocolate and a long finish. Refined and polished. Classic style. Better in 2019.”
